Okorocha gets medical permission to travel abroad

  • Senator Rochas Okorocha has been granted permission to travel abroad for medical check attention
  • The federal high court in Abuja presided over by Justice Iyang Ekwo gave the declaration on Wednesday, July 6
  • However, Senator Okorocha’s request was permitted the request with a caveat by the federal high court

FCT, Abuja Justice Inyang Ekwo of the federal high court in Abuja has ordered the release of Senator Rochas Okorocha’s passport to travel for a medical check-up, The Punch newspaper reported.

The declaration of the court was a sequel to an application filed by the defense counsel Ola Olanipekun (SAN) told the court that the lawmaker has been battling ill-health.

His attorney during the prayer to the court assured Justice Ekwo that Okorocha will not violate the stipulations binding the permission granted to him.

Meanwhile, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Chile Okoroma opposed the request but Justice Ekwo permitted the request with a caveat by the court.

Justice Ekwo in his declaration ordered Okorocha to return the passport to the Court Registrar on or before three days of his arrival in the country.

Justice Ekwo however fixed November 7 for his trial in the money laundering criminal charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

EFCC arraigns Senator Okorocha

Prior to the release of Okorocha’s passport, the EFCC had earlier raided Okorocha’s home and arrested him.

He was arraigned before Justice Iyang Ekwo of he federal high court in Abuja on Monday, May 30.

The EFCC stated that Senator Okorocha was being arraigned for allegations bordering on money laundering and other related offenses.

Court denies Okorocha bail

In a spin-off to his arraignment, the former Imo state governor filed an application seeking bail from the federal high court in Abuja.

At the time of his request, Senator Okorocha’s reasons was on the premise that he needed to be a part of the screening process for his presidential ambition.

Justice Iyang Ekwo however, denied Senator Okorocha bail and instead remanded him in EFCC’s custody.
