- The Labour Party in Lagos state has dismissed talks that Akinwunmi Ambode has defected to its fold
- According to the party’s chairman in Lagos, Ifagbemi Awamaridi, who spoke with newsmen in the state, the rumour is false
- Part of the debunked claim is that Ambode defected to the Labour Party to secure the governorship seat in 2023
Lagos – The Lagos chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has reacted to claims that Akinwunmi Ambode, a former governor of the state, has defected to the party from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ifagbemi Awamaridi, the chairman of the LP in Lagos, on Thursday, July 7, debunked the unconfirmed rumour and maintained that the former has never made such a decision, Premium Times reports.
Instead, Awamaridi made it clear that he is still the governorship flagbearer in the state ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Meanwhile, a source close to Ambode told journalists that the ex-governor did not at any time defect to another party.

Peter Obi: Nigeria will be worse if Labour Party candidate wins in 2023, says Reno Omokri
Meanwhile, Reno Omokri, a former presidential media aide, had predicted that if Peter Obi becomes the next president, his administration would be worse than Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
Omokri, a supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the prediction in a series of tweets on Twitter.
“As bad as Nigeria now is, it will be worse under Obi. Peter’s horde are most intolerant. Datti Baba Ahmed is an excellent choice. He is not cut from their cloth. The Obi mob can’t tolerate what Buhari tolerates. I shudder to think of a Nigeria under their rule!
“If you are an independent, ask yourself how many critics Buhari has silenced? He has his issues, but compare Buhari, not just to Obi. Compare him to those around Peter. Would you like to be governed by such a bunch? Would you be free? Would all citizens be equal?”
