Many injured as gunmen storm APC campaign venue in powerful PDP state

  • The APC was said to have arranged the venue on Sunday evening for its campaign on Monday but suspected political hoodlums destroyed it before the morning

Port Harcourt, Rivers – There was tension and apprehension as gunmen attacked the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign venue in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers state.

According to The Punch, the attackers are suspected to be political thugs and destroyed properties at the venue.

Why gunmen attacked APC campaign venue in Rivers state

It was learnt that the APC had prepared the venue to hold its rally on Sunday night but the thugs destroyed all the property in sight during the attack on the venue.

Last week, the APC chapter of the Omuma LGA, raised an alarm over a threat by some unknown persons who vowed that the party would not be allowed to hold its campaign rally in the area.

Before now, the party had called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to set up a special crack team in the state, alleging that most of the security architecture in the area had been compromised.

The spokesperson of the APC in Rivers state, Darlington Nwauju, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday.

Rivers state has been marked as one of the violent states in the forthcoming election.

Nyesom Wike, the governor and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has been at loggerheads with its party leadership and how vowed to give it all for his candidates to emerge in the election.
